RAFAEL ABRANCHES is a Portuguese composer and orchestrator for moving image, based in Leeds UK. He has recently graduated with a First Class Honours in Film Music from Leeds Conservatoire. Rafael has written music for multiple films, series, documentaries and production companies. Most recently he did additional orchestration for the TV documentary "No Roses on a Sailor's Grave" directed by Daniel Oron and music composed by Alex Redfern.
In 2020, Rafael co-founded Engrave Production Music, where he and other talented composers work on production music for TV, film and advertising across the globe.
Rafael started to study music with seven years old. In his eight years of intensive music studies at Conservatoire Callouts Gulbenkian of Aveiro, he specialised in Euphonium, Piano and varied theoretical music subject. Quickly started composing his own music with twelve and ended up falling in love with the art of film scoring. Since then, he has been working towards a full-time career in the film industry by auditioning to Leeds Conservatoire in 2017 to study film composition on a degree level, which he finalised this year with first-class honours.
In 2019, Rafael received the Harry Escott Prize for the highest achievement in the BA Music (Film) Year 2
